This Kellison J6 was originally a Drag car utilizing a Kellison body. The car was built for track use only. The original builders used a C2 corvette frame as a starting point. The frame was heavily customized for the drag strip. The frame was set up for a live axle configured for a 4 point rear suspension. The car was obtained as a frame and body only. It did not come with a rear axle, rear suspension components, seats, pedals, motor or transmission.

For this build the customer has supplied a Ford 9" rear from a 1970 Torino. The rear has been:

  • Narrowed to fit the body
  • brackets added to fit the chassis original 4 point brackets
  • A panhard bar mount was added to the rear axil and the chassis.
  • The center section of the ford 9" was compromised by salt water thus the center section was rebuilt with a new gear set and a traction locker. A interesting note is the center section had a OEM daytona pinion support. This was retained and reconditioned with new seals and bearings and a solid collar.
  • Fitted with strange 31 spline axles

A custom gas pedal and Wilwood brake pedal have been added. The pedals have been floor mounted.

The car came with a mounted steering rack. The rack is from a 1960's UK ford Capri MKI. The rack was rebuild and repositioned to not interfere with the new motor. A steering column has been fabricated using Sweet u-joints, 3/4 tubing and spherical bearings.

A Buick 425 Nail head with dual quads and a TH350 automatic transmission were supplied by the customer and has been mounted slightly forward of where the drag motor was. That is still very far back.

New firewall, transmission tunnel, floor pans and foot boxes have been fabricated. The original aluminum sheet metal components were not able to be retained as they did not fit the new engine, transmission and pedals
